How We Live These Values in School

  • Encouraging pupil participation and discussion.

  • Applying rules consistently and fairly.

  • Creating inclusive, welcoming classrooms.

  • Modelling respectful behaviour at all times.

  • Promoting understanding of different cultures and beliefs.

Fundamental British Values

Democracy

Pupils have a voice, take part in decision‑making, and experience fair processes.

Rule of Law

Clear expectations help everyone understand why rules matter and how they keep us safe.

Individual Liberty

Children are supported to make safe, informed choices and understand their rights and responsibilities.

Mutual Respect

Positive relationships are built on respectful language, behaviour, and valuing each other’s contributions.

Tolerance of Different Faiths & Beliefs

We celebrate diversity, challenge stereotypes, and promote understanding across all cultures and religions.

Pupil Voice – Bidston Village CE Primary School

At Bidston Village CE Primary School, we believe that children should play an active role in shaping their school experience. Pupil Voice is central to our ethos: we listen to our pupils, value their ideas and encourage them to take responsibility within our school community.

Through school councils, class discussions, leadership roles and regular opportunities to share opinions, pupils learn that their thoughts matter and that they can make a positive difference. We teach children to express themselves confidently, listen respectfully to others and work together to bring about change.

By empowering pupils to speak up, we help them develop independence, responsibility and a strong sense of belonging.

“Everyone gets a say, even if we don’t all agree.”

“Our rules help us feel safe and know what’s fair.”

“We learn that rules are there to protect people.”

“Teachers help us understand how to make safe choices.”

“We respect each other even when we’re different.”

“We learn to listen properly and not talk over people.”

“We learn about lots of religions so we understand other people.”

“It’s interesting hearing about different cultures and celebrations.”

At Bidston Village we have been looking closely at promoting fundamental British values

These British values are:

Democracy

The Rule of the Law

Individual Liberty

Mutual Respect

Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith

Through exploration of these values we encourage our pupils to respect themselves and others, develop their knowledge of other faiths and the law system in the UK, teach them to tolerate and appreciate others in society and to take responsibility for their roles in school. We also work effortlessly to provide all our pupils with opportunities and skills to raise their confidence and self- esteem to enable them to make positive contributions to the society in which they live.
