Mental Health and Wellbeing
Mental Health and Well-Being Support at Our School
At our school, we are committed to creating a nurturing environment where every child feels safe, valued and supported. We recognise the vital role mental health and emotional well-being play in a child’s learning, confidence and overall development. To ensure all pupils have access to the right support, we offer a wide range of well-being provisions across the school.
Emotional Literacy Support
We are proud to have two trained ELSAs (Emotional Literacy Support Assistants) who work with pupils to develop skills in emotional regulation, resilience, social interaction and self-esteem. Through structured sessions, our ELSAs provide a safe and supportive space for children to explore their feelings and build confidence.
Specialist Well-Being Spaces
Our school features four dedicated sensory rooms, thoughtfully designed to provide calming, therapeutic environments. These spaces help pupils regulate their emotions, reduce anxiety, and re-engage positively with learning. The rooms include a range of sensory tools and resources tailored to meet individual needs.
Therapeutic Interventions
To further support emotional and social development, we offer several evidence-based interventions, including:
Drawing and Talking Therapy – A child-centred approach that allows pupils to express themselves safely through creative storytelling and drawing.
Sensory Circuits – A structured series of physical and sensory activities that help children prepare their bodies and minds for learning.
LEGO Therapy – A collaborative, play-based intervention designed to strengthen communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and social skills.
Our Commitment
We are dedicated to supporting every child’s well-being through early intervention, positive relationships and inclusive practice. By providing a range of emotional and therapeutic support, we aim to ensure that all pupils feel understood, empowered and ready to achieve their full potential.
Wirral CAMHS
Wirral CAMHS has been successful in a bid for two years funding which will enable us to develop and roll out MHST’s across 53 local primary schools. The new service is being developed with a formal launch planned for Autumn/Winter 2020 following the completion of the Education Mental Health Practitioner training. At Bidston Village we are lucky to be one of those 53 schools.
The service has three core functions:
To deliver brief evidence-based interventions to support children and young people with mild-moderate mental health problems
To support schools in developing their whole school approach to mental health
To provide timely advice to school staff and liaison with external services, to help children and young people to get the right help and stay in education
