Bidston Village C.E Primary School
SEND

“Pupils who have special educational needs and/or disabilities are made to feel welcome. The on-site resourced provision is a strength of the school. In these very nurturing environments, staff provide personalised support in order to meet pupils’ specific needs. They identify the ongoing barriers to learning and put in place measures to accelerate the progress that pupils make in their learning.”   - Ofsted , March 2018

Bidston Village CE Primary School is supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils with Special Educational Needs, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school. In addition, Bidston Village has base provision for 24 pupils with Education and Health Care Plans (EHCPs) that address their Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD). These places are allocated by the local authority. If your child already has an EHCP or is in the application process and you would like to visit our bases, please contact Vicki Fallon (EIB SENDCO).

Language and Communication

Language and Communication is a vital part of a child's development. In order to support our children, we have a range of resources and interventions that we use to ensure that we provide them with the best possible support.

We have regular visits for our pupils in our dedicated education inclusion bases (EIB) from an NHS Speech and Language Therapist. In addition, we have employed the services of two independent speech and language services who assess, review and support staff in individual programmes of SALT for all pupils that require this. If a member of staff, or parent/carer has concerns about a child's speech or understanding, a referral may be made to one of our providers, who will arrange an assessment of need. Once the assessment is complete, and depending on the outcome a report is produced and targets set for school and home to follow. Programmes of support maybe provided to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Staff have been trained in the use of Blank Level questioning. There are four levels of questioning which move from simple, concrete questions to more difficult, abstract questions. Blank questions encourage development of general language and vocabulary as well as skills in comprehension, reasoning, inferencing, predicting and problem solving.

Neurodiversity

At Bidston Village, we pride ourselves on supporting neurodiversity. We believe that neurodevelopmental conditions should be seen in a positive way.

Work packs are provided for the children to use both in class and at home. Lots of over learning has proven to be effective in supporting the children’s progress.
